I absolutely loved the Tim and Debbie video! Was literally (and yes I mean literally) in tears lol! Regarding the limits of certain thought experiments, one of my lecturers, Adrian Walsh, has written a useful article analysing when thought experiments are legitimate and when they are not:

Fair enough regarding the 'pond' thought experiment and William's observation on animals harming one another, since you have made clear this is line with the more thoroughgoing utilitarians than your flavour of utilitarianism. On that note I will be looking at the literature you have recommended in your article to understand this better. Especially the one regarding public policy.
