Link back to commentThe Karsh quote refers to modern or contemporary history in only a tangential way and provides little basis for his thesis. Peter is putting forward a thesis about "civilisational challenge" that has world-historical importance, if it was at all true. If it had validity, as I have said, there would now be dozens of books about it from highly respected historians. It's up to Peter to show that his thesis has real backing and is not just based on the rantings of right wing hacks
It's not up to me to list books that disprove his thesis and, moreover, why would a serious historian spend an extensive amount of time and effort rebutting the rantings of these hacks? If I say that Christians always have toast and marmalade for tea, that their insatiable hunger for marmalade is central to the Christian story and has led them on to endless wars to achieve world marmalade domination, then it's up to me to list the reputable historical research and analysis that informs my views, not to tell others to list the the books that sought to disprove my thesis. Books which, most unfortunately, may not exist.
So again Peter, please provide the serious historical works that inform your views.
