I think Holly Lawford-Smith from Melbourne University, the final speaker in our program for this year, got into some strife for making essentially the same point as Adolph Reed: that there is no way to insist both that transgender identities are legitimate, that sex has nothing to do with biology, and then to say that transracialism, as in the claim of Rachel Dolezal to be ‘black’, is not.

As Reed says in the conclusion to the article:

‘There is no coherent, principled defense of the stance that transgender identity is legitimate but transracial is not, at least not one that would satisfy basic rules of argument.’
