Hope you had a good Christmas Peter,

In response to the specifics of Peter Sutton's work, I have fallen on a bit of an agnostic position. This is mostly due to my ignorance in Anthropology, so I tend to appeal to authority by consensus on such matters, but given the controversy of such subjects, this cannot be done.

I have however come across a review of Sutton's book that reflects my agnostic stance as well, but also helpfully provides two counter articles from Anthropologists against Sutton's conclusions.
