IP is an inevitable consequence of multiculturalism and identity politics. The latter goes hand-in-hand with IP. What is true of aboriginal culture is also true of Islam and, for example, Orthodox Judaism. Can that mitigate or even excuse activities that the wider community abhors? Of course not. But sentencing has to take such things into account. We have little alternative than to live with it, avert our eyes and tut-tut. History is the chronicle of IP. "You have won the lottery of life. You have been born an Englishman," said Cecil Rhodes. IP has an upside, too. I am very glad that I was born an Australian. I can bask in my Scottish, Ulster and English heritages, while enjoying being a Bondi Boy. This probably has an evil side to it. Guilt is not one of them.
