Thanks Rafe. I agree with what you are saying here. I think there needs to be a coalition of classical liberals, conservatives, as well as those who (like me) favour a more egalitarian social-democratic politics, and anyone else who supports preserving and strengthening the kind of liberal democratic civilization we had, until recently, come to take for granted. When you take the long view, and extrapolate where some of the current societal trends could be leading, the challenges to this civilization seem profound. I have this dread that the Enlightenment era could end up being a relatively short chapter in human history. I will have a lot more to say about this in the next article.
